Himalayan Mysteries - Walkthrough (level five)

TILE PUZZLE: You begin this level near the pool with deadly oil. Go around it and jump into the hallway on the other side. Follow it to a closed gate. To the left and to the right there are two openings in the wall. Climb first into the one on the right. In a small room find a button on the wall and press it. You won't open any door, but you'll have a view of another room with glass box in the middle and metal tiles around it. Some tiles are different than the others. Remember their position. Return to the hallway and climb into the other opening. Proceed to the room with glass box and metal tiles around it.


In order to solve this puzzle, you need to jump onto the correct tiles, to raise a platform inside the glass box. If you miss a jump, fall to the floor or jump on the wrong tile, you will have to reset the puzzle by leaving this room and returning into it afterward. Refer to the map to see the correct tiles. The sequence is this: from the tile (1) take a running jump diagonally to the tile (2). Jump back to the tile (1), then a diagonal running jump to the tile (3). Take a standing jump onto the tile (4) and side flip to the left onto the tile (5). A platform in the glass box will raise, so jump up to grab it, pull up and use the jump switch above to open the big gate in the hallway. Return to the hallway and go through the gate.

ALIEN SETTLEMENT: Slide down into a huge cave. In the following flyby you'll see that aliens built their settlement inside this cave. It it desolate now, and only their nasty flying robots are still here. One of them will follow you around this cave and shoot plasma at you, but don't waste time and ammo trying to kill it; it's armor is obviously bullet-proof. Later, when you take a Raygun, you can blast it away. Just keep moving to avoid their plasma bolts as much as you can.

As you enter the cave, turn to left and go to the end of the walkway. Jump up to grab the slanted rocks above and shimmy to the right and around the corner. When you cannot traverse to the left any more, pull up and back flip onto the central walkway behind you. Turn around and go straight forward (east) along the walkway, turn right and enter the building here. When you enter, go to the right and take SMP from the pedestal. Go to the other side of the building and turn right around the corner.

GREENHOUSE: Enter the greenhouse chambers. Go in the chamber to the right, and around the plant to the left, and use a jump switch on the wall to open a door nearby. Leave this chamber and climb the ladders between the right and the middle chamber, to the upper level. Slide down the glass floor above the oil pool, jump from the edge and grab the ladders. Climb up and to the left into a hallway. Inside a small control room use a jump switch to open one trapdoor inside the middle greenhouse, and one door in the building where you entered the greenhouse. Use the ladder in the corner to climb down. Once on the floor, roll, run forward, leave the greenhouse and turn right into a room where you can take Universal Translator from the pedestal. Taking it will help you decipher the symbols at the entrance to the buildings around the cave, and also causes a cover of a pedestal elsewhere to raise. Leave this building and return to the walkways in the cave. NOTE: If you want, you can climb onto the rock at the entrance to the greenhouse and read the alien symbols on the wall. The same thing can be done with the symbols on the other building.

TECH SHOP: Follow the walkway to the left, then to the right, and enter the Tech Shop. Take Mechanical Note from the pedestal. Taking it will open a door nearby. Read this note in your Inventory: "Things to do on Yagull: Recharge Energy Cell for the Turbodrive." To the right there is a Yagull (an alien motorbike). You don't need to use it right now, just remember where it is. Go through the door you've just opened (to the right of the pedestal), and turn right. At the intersection first go left into a small room with sonars, and press a button on the wall to open a trapdoor above the ladder. Return to the intersection, turn left and climb the ladder, then back flip onto a ledge behind.

You'll emerge in another control room with computers and two buttons. However, you cannot use these buttons at the moment, since force fields prevents you from approaching them. So enter the other room with deadly pools. Jump diagonally to the right over the middle pool and go around the pool with water. Press the button on the wall to lower one force field in the previous room. Return there and use the button to turn the oil in the middle pool into water. Return to the middle pool, jump into water and use the underwater lever to lower the force field around the second button. Go to it and press it to turn the oil into the left pool into water. Return there, jump over the first pool (which is now again full of oil), jump into the pool to the left and take an empty Energy Cell on the bottom. Now return to the lower level and leave the Tech Shop for now.

When you return to the walkway in the cave, go to the right (south), step onto a glass platform which is now raised, and take a running jump to grab the edge of the walkway in front of the first building. Enter and go into the hallway in the back. At the T-intersection go left and enter a chamber with some strange energy beams. Don't climb onto the block with beams, they are deadly. Just approach them and press Action to recharge the energy cell you've just found. Don't forget to take recharged Energy Cell from the floor before you leave. Head back to the Tech Shop, approach the Yagull facing north and press Esc to open the Inventory. Choose the Energy Cell and use it on the Yagull before you ride it. If you don't place the Cell on the Yagull, you won't have the turbodrive.

Ride the bike out of the Tech Shop, and carefully and slowly along the walkway towards the greenhouse. In front of the entrance to the greenhouse there is a ramp leading to the left (north). Drive down and enter the cave system beneath the settlement.

CAVE SYSTEM: At the bottom of the slope turn left (west) into the huge cave, drive forward and enter a small opening with steps and a small ramp. At the intersection get off the bike, go a few steps back to the stairs, climb into a small building and take Alien Raygun and Raygun Explosive Ammo from the pedestals. Return to the bike and the intersection. For the next part, it is better to go on foot, so leave the bike where it is and go into the tunnel to the left (there are three tunnels here: the left, the middle and the right). Cross the stone bridge above the oil pool, and enter the building around the corner to the right. Turn left inside the building, follow the passage to the door, climb into the alcove to the right of the door and press a button to open it. Proceed to the cave with frozen lake.

CAVE WITH FROZEN LAKE: Draw your Raygun and choose explosive ammo in your Inventory. Kill a robot flying around this cave, and proceed through the passage to the right (south). Follow it to a ladder, climb up, approach the opening and save your game.

You have to jump from one glass platform to another, but all of them are slippery and are the same as slanted blocks, although they are flat. Walk to the edge of the opening, take a standing jump to grab the first platform, shimmy to the right (but not around the corner), pull up and slide. Jump with a right curve onto the second platform, slide, jump from the edge and grab the third platform. Shimmy all the way to the left, pull up, slide and jump with a left curve onto the last platform. Slide and jump with Action into the opening. Go around to the right and to the second opening. Jump diagonally to the left onto another glass platform, slide and jump from the edge to grab the opening ahead. Pull up and proceed to a hallway. Don't go through the opening in the floor yet, but turn right into a small room, use your spear in the contraption to the right to lit the burners and melt the lake in the cave. Now go back to the opening in the floor, climb down the ladders and follow the hallway to the pit with burners.

It is tricky to get across these burners without catching fire. Walk to the edge of the pit, side step to the left or right and jump up to grab the monkey bars above. Watch the cycle of the first burner. When it is about to subside, monkey swing forward and hang between two burners. Watch the cycle of the second burner. When it is about to subside, monkey swing forward and land into the hallway beyond. Enter the room and push the button on the wall to open an underwater door in the lake. Return across the pit with the burners using the same strategy as before and return back to the opening above the lake.

Dive in and swim straight forward through the opening. Follow the twisted tunnel to a shaft above where you can surface and climb out of the water. Climb onto the higher block and walk to the edge of the tunnel. Diagonally to the left there is a ledge with burner. Time your running jump to land on it when the burner is off, and immediately hop back to grab the edge of the block. While hanging from the edge, use the Look button to watch the burner above. When it is about to subside, pull up and take a running jump to land into the doorway straight ahead.

Climb into the alcove to the right and use the button to raise the cover from the pedestal in the opposite alcove. Go there and take Heat Plasma from the pedestal. Go back to the water, jump in and swim back to the lake. Pull out of the water into the doorway to the right (west). Return to the bridge, cross it and go back to your bike. Drive through the middle tunnel and keep going to the right. At the base of the ramp turn your bike to face the ramp and drive back as far as possible. Hold down Sprint key to use turbodrive, then press Action to start driving up the ramp. Jump over the gap to land near the window to the right. Drive to break the window, and get off the bike here.

TOXIC POOL: Climb the raised block. You cannot jump directly to grab the ladder to the left. Instead, take a running jump to land on the ledge straight ahead. From there jump diagonally to grab the ladder, climb down then to the left at the bottom of the ladder, then around the corner to the last ladder. Climb down, and when you reach the last block above the toxic pool, back flip to land on the ledge behind. Follow the ledge around the pool, climb into the opening and proceed to the next ladder. Don't climb them, but instead, turn right and follow the passage to the opening high above the big toxic pool. Shoot the flying robot from here, climb down the ladders to the big pool, and enter the passage (east). Save before you push the button here.

The gate on the other side of the lake will open, but it is timed. You have to jump across the lake from one platform to another, in order to reach the gate before it closes. This timed run is merciless, so embrace yourselves. Push the button, immediately roll and sprint through the passage. Sprint along the ledge next to the lake, steer to the left and jump onto the first platform. Keep running and jump from the edge onto the second platform. Quickly pivot Lara to the left to face the third platform, take a standing jump to land on it, run and jump from the edge onto the ledge in front of the gate. Sprint through (or reload the save if you are late). Grab the Heat Plasma from the pedestal. The gate will open again. Get back to the toxic lake, jump across it using the platforms and return to the ladder to the left (west).

Follow the tunnel to the ladder you haven't climbed yet. Climb up and pull up onto a slanted block above the ladder. Back flip onto another slanted block, jump forward and grab the ladder above the first one. Climb all the way up and to the right, to land in a tunnel above. From the opening take a running jump to grab the back edge of a slanted block ahead. Shimmy to the right, pull up, slide just a bit and jump to grab the monkey ceiling above. Traverse forward and land onto another slanted block. Slide down near the first ladder next to the bike. Take a running jump across the gap, ride the bike again and carefully go across the bridge back to the intersection.

BROKEN BRIDGE: Drive through the tunnel to the right. On the fork go to the left (west) and right around the corner. In the cave beyond there is a broken bridge above another toxic pool. Use turbodrive to clear the gap in the bridge, and once on the other side, leave the bike at the intersection.

Enter the doorway to the left (west). To the right there is a ladder with a closed trapdoor above. Go left and press the button on the wall to open this trapdoor. But don't climb that ladder yet, just remember it. Return to the intersection with the bike, go to the right to the broken bridge. At the bridge turn to the right and take a running jump into the open doorway. Take more Raygun explosive ammo from the pedestal and press the button on the wall to open the door nearby. Jump back to the bridge, go to the intersection and again to the left, and now climb that ladder.

Shoot the robot in the room and climb the ladder on the other side. You'll end up in the room with deadly tiles. Tiles that are "open" are deadly, so avoid them. Jump from one safe tile to another, approach the pedestal and take Heat Plasma. Return the same way to the ladder, climb up and return to your bike. Get on it and drive through the passage to the right (east). Don't drive down the slope ahead, but turn to the right, use the button to open the door and drive through. Keep driving to the left and through the opening with the steps and the ramp, to return back to the main cave.

When you re-enter the main cave, drive to the left, leaving the artificial pillar on your right. Enter the tunnel to the left and drive to an intersection. Turn to the right and use the turbodrive to jump on the stone ridge ahead (drive up the small stone in front of the ridge, and towards the left side of the ridge, because that side is sloped). Follow the tunnel to another building. Leave the bike here, open the door with a button and go in.

PITS WITH POLES: Yes, friends, those things above the pit are swinging poles. Take a running jump to grab either of two poles, swing around and jump onto the ledge on the other side (refer to the author's Readme for the controls for swinging). Go to the left then turn right into a room with pounding blocks. Side step to the right, and take a carefully timed diagonal running jump into an alcove to the right, behind the first pounding block (hop back and start running for the jump when the closer block is on its rightmost position). Use the jump switch in the alcove. Turn to face the pounding blocks, walk to the edge of the alcove, turn diagonally to the right and carefully time your running jump into the next alcove. Turn to face the pounding blocks, then side step to the right, turn diagonally to face the last alcove to the right, and carefully time your running jump into it. Pull the lever here and use a diagonal running jump as before to jump onto the ledge to the left (again). Climb into the opening to the right.

Slide down into the room with a pedestal. Take more Raygun explosive ammo from the pedestal and proceed through the doorway. Take a running jump to grab the first pole, swing around, jump to grab the second pole, swing around and jump onto the slanted block. Grab its edge and shimmy to the right where you can pull up.
Climb onto the higher block then grab the ladder, climb up a bit and back flip onto the higher ledge. Take another Heat Plasma from the pedestal, go through the big doorway and shoot another flying robot. Jump up the slope in the opening to the right, jump up one more slope and climb the block to a small room. Use a jump switch here, continue jumping over the slopes to the right until you emerge back at the room with pounding blocks. Go to the right towards the pounding blocks, use a running jump to jump across when the blocks are moving away one from another, and leave this room, turning right at the intersection.

Save in front of this pit with poles. Take a running jump to grab the left pole, swing around and jump to grab the switch on the wall. Flip it, fall down onto the slanted block, slide and grab its edge. Shimmy to the right until you can pull up, climb one more block and go through the open door, back to your Yagull. You don't need your bike any more, and you can return to the main cave on foot, the way you came.

HEATING UP: When you arrive at the main cave again, go forward to the other side, and to the far left corner. Enter the building here. Go into the first doorway to the left and pull the jump switch on the wall to close the tiles in the next room, and make them safe. Go around the corner to the left, near the "Danger" sign on the wall and press the button on the wall before entering the room you've just made safe. Enter the room with the generator and place four Heat Plasmas in their receptacles in the big contraption. A flyby will show that the snow and ice in the greenhouses has melted in the heat. Leave this building and return to the main cave. Go into the far right corner and through the opening to the right (east). Run up the slope (jump over the steep part) and enter the greenhouse.

Go into the back of the greenhouse and enter the middle garden. Now you can examine the tunnel you've opened much earlier, since the ice has melted. Drop through the open trapdoor and slog through water to the end of the tunnel, where you will find the Gate Key. Return back to the greenhouse and once again go back to the main cave. Cross the walkway towards the Tech Shop. Don't come in, just keep going to the end of the walkway, near the "Tech Shop" sign. Turn to the right (east) towards an opening in the wall.

ABOVE THE GENERATOR: Take a running jump to grab the right side of it (which is low enough) and pull up into it. Enter the cave to the right, go to the other side and crawl into the crawlspace to the left. Turn left into the room, go to the other side, climb into an alcove and turn left against the wall. Jump up to grab a high crawlspace and pull in. Enter a big room with four ramps. Remember not to step onto the central tile, it's deadly. Go down the ramp and jump diagonally onto the ramp to the left. Go up the ramp and pick up more Raygun explosive ammo from the pedestal. Go down the ramp, jump over the deadly tile, then up the ramp ahead. Push the button to open the door, go down the ramp, jump diagonally to the ramp on the right, go up and claim Secret #12: Orb Piece. Roll, go down the ramp, jump over the deadly tile, go up the next ramp, and drop through the opening. Return to the crawlspace and this time go left, to end up on the ramp in front of the greenhouse.

Go down this ramp and into the main cave to the left. Cross to the other side and enter the opening ahead (east). At the intersection go right and keep going to the right and through the door you've opened earlier. This time slide down the slope to the right, continue to the gate and place the key in the receptacle to the right to open the gate. Go through to end the level.
